Celebrating 4 Decades of Service to Qualter Hall

Qualter Hall & Company Limited has a rich history of fostering long-term employee relationships. This year, we are celebrating two of our finest as they reach 40 years of service. Together, their journeys represent nearly a century of innovation, dedication and engineering excellence.

From a 3-Month Contract to a 40-Year Legacy

Carl’s journey in our engineering workshop team began four decades ago on what was supposed to be a three-month temporary contract to fulfil a project for the mining sector. He never left.

Reflecting on a career of incredible builds, his favourite project remains the manufacture of the bogies (wheel structures) and heavy steel superstructures for the very first Channel Tunnel trains. Carl says: “They were 20 meters long and a real challenge to dispatch out of the workshop, but they looked incredibly impressive and were something very new for Qualter Hall, which had only served the mining sector up until then.”

Mastering the Controls: From R&D to Industry Firsts

We have also honoured employees who have dedicated decades of their careers to Qualter Hall.

Our second milestone achiever works in our dedicated controls division. Andrew joined the business 40 years ago to work on a cutting-edge research and development project alongside his father, who was then Qualter Hall’s Chief Electrical Engineer and Controls Division Director.

Andrew’s most memorable project was a pioneering, first-of-its-kind automated roadway support machine for the mining sector, for which he worked on a complex PLC controls system.

For Andrew, the secret to the company’s longevity is simple: “The thing that makes Qualter Hall special is its people. The best talent has tended to stay with the business for a long time.”
