Hugh Smith 5,000 tonne vertical plate bending machine

Hugh Smith, a division of Qualter, Hall & Co Ltd, supplied a vertical plate bending machine to a specialist fabricator in the USA.

Capable of exerting 5,000 tonnes of force, this machine is part of a range of plate bending machines designed and manufactured in our workshop facility in Barnsley, utilising in-house design experience as well as subcontract supply, in-house machining and fabrication. Fully tested and commissioned in the UK, the machine was dismantled and exported, where it was reassembled and commissioned under the careful supervision of our own personnel.

This project was possible due to excellent feedback from operators in North America where Qualter Hall has supplied numerous similar Hugh Smith machines.

This particular machine is capable of bending high yield materials up to 220mm thick to large and tight radii.  The precise control of operation by high pressure proportional hydraulics ensure that accurate forming to close tolerances can be achieved for all diameters.

The vertical roller configuration alleviates the gravitational challenges of horizontal bending.  This, coupled with decades of design development and continuing innovation and after-sales servicing, makes the Hugh Smith brand well-known internationally.
