Geoffrey Osborne Ltd/Wessex County Council

The aim of the project was to replace the existing footbridge over the River Adur which is about 90 years old. The bridge links Shoreham beach to Shoreham by Sea town centre.

The new bridge is a combined pedestrian and cycle bridge, which was constructed to the east of the original footbridge. It was also designed to be a swing bridge which balances on two central spans and is supported from a reinforced concrete pier. The swing bridge provides a 15.24m navigation channel with unlimited headroom when in the open position.

Qualter Hall was selected by Geoffrey Osborne Ltd and Wessex County Council to design, manufacture, supply, install and commission the Mechanical and Electrical operating package for the new 50 metre long footbridge.
