Qualter Hall is delighted to announce their selection for the design, manufacture and installation of two Fish Belly Gates at Calverley, near Leeds, by BAM Nuttall’s project team.
The project is part of the second Phase of the £112 million Leeds Flood Alleviation Scheme, with the Gates at Calverley being used to create a Flood Storage Reservoir on a stretch of the River Aire, helping to protect businesses and homes.
The project includes the manufacture of two gates and the design and supply of the electrical control of hydraulic systems. Each gate is actuated by a single hydraulic cylinder, is approximately 11m x 6.4m and weighs over 37 tonnes.
The gates and associated parts will be manufactured at Qualter Hall’s Barnsley facility including fabrication, machining and painting, using our extensive in-house capability. This will be followed by site installation of the equipment and integrated system commissioning by our engineers, with completion of the project planned in early 2023.
