Hydraulically Operated Water Control Gate

Seaham Harbour Water Control Gate

Fully automated, anti-surge hydraulic dock gate is designed to open and close with the tides.

Seaham Harbour is a busy commercial port located on the North East Coast of the UK. When the previous gates and operating system were considered beyond their commercial life by the port owner, Qualter Hall was commissioned by Lumsden & Carroll Construction (Esh Group) for Durham City Council, to design, manufacture, supply and install a side hinged, hydraulically operated water control gate across the mouth of the North Dock Marina, to impound water in the marina and protect from wave and tidal action.

What work was done by Qualter Hall?

Consideration had to be taken to limit disruption to the ongoing port operations, as well as the wider community, and Qualter Hall liaised effectively with the Harbour Team, the City Council and the general public throughout the execution of the project.

Special care was also taken with regards to managing the environmental impact of the works and protecting the area’s precious ecology, including proper disposal of any waste.
